Name: J. Miguel Mas-Hesse Age: 45 Present position: Scientific Director of LAEFF I have worked on two main areas of activity: 1.- Starburst galaxies. I have expertise in building and exploiting evolutionary synthesis models for the study of violent, massive star formation episodes. I have worked on the following topics: - Formation and evolution of massive stars. - Multiwavelength synthetic Spectral Energy Distributions, from IR to X-rays, but with special emphseis on the UV range (IUE and HST). - Impact of the starburst eposides on the surrounding medium, including the enrichment of the gas, formation of winds, kinematical profiles of the Lyman alpha emission line,.... - Relation between starburst episodes and the low luminosity active nuclei. 2.- Space instrumentation. I participated in the Low Energy Gamma Ray Imager (LEGRI) onboard the Spanish MINISAT mission. Presently, I am PI of the Optical Monitoring Camera (OMC) onboard INTEGRAL. For the future, I have just started a new participation in the development of the MIXS instrument onboard Bepi Colombo. In all cases, with the engineering support of INTA. In parallel I am devoting a significant amount of time to management issues, at institute level and also within the Spanish National Space Programme.
