Hector_Oti_Floranes LAEFF PhD Student My name is Héctor Otí and I am a PhD student working at LAEFF under the direction of Miguel Mas. I did my Physics MSc at the University of Cantabria, in Santander, during which I spent one year under the Erasmus Programme at Imperial College of London. At IC I collaborated with M. J. Thompson in the field of Asteroseismology, focusing on the study of some frequency ratios which apparently do not depend on the physical properties of the outer layers of the stars, so can give us information about the inner core. During my last year at the University of Cantabria I worked with Francisco Carrera at IFCA in my Final Year Project, which consisted of the study of AGN X-ray spectra: their fitting to standard models and searching for unexpected intrinsic absorption. Currently, here at LAEFF, I am doing my PhD under a national funded scholarship. My main interests for the moment are: starburst galaxies, star formation rate estimators and their calibration via population synthesis models, focusing on high energies.
