Monica Cardaci FPU-MEC Research Fellow I obtained my degree in Astronomy at the Facultad de Ciencias Astronomicas de La Plata, Argentina, with a research project titled "Analisis de imagenes Br\gamma (Gemini) de regiones de formacion estelar en M101". This work was a photometric infrared/optical study of a couple of giant star forming regions of M101. Then I moved to Madrid and started my PhD studies at the Universidad Autonoma, not in star forming regions in the IR but in AGNs in X-rays, under the supervision of Maria Santos Lleo (ESAC) and Angeles Diaz Beltran (UAM). My PhD project "Gas altamente ionizado en galaxias Seyfert 1: interpretacion de sus huellas en espectros de rayos X de alta resolucion" is based on the spectral analysis of AGN type 1 objects. The aim of this project is to study the absorption and emission features in the high resolution spectra of this kind of source to infer the physical conditions (such as electronic density, temperature, distance from the continuum source) of the gas in which they are produced. On the other hand, in collaboration with G. Hagele, A. Diaz Beltran, E. Terlevich, R. Terlevich and E. Perez Montero, I'm also involved in the study of the kinematics of gas and stars in circumnuclear star forming regions of early type spiral galaxies, and in the abundance analysis and ionisation structure of bright HII galaxies. ---
