Summary: We discuss the first tests carried out with a goal of defining the procedures for the Ground Based Optical Tracking (GBOT) of Gaia. We have made observations of the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe in both guiding-on-the-stars and guiding-on-the-satellite modes. We present the results of these tests and, considerations of the required detector size and proposed filter choice.
