An operational history for a space mission is a consolidation of the status of a spacecraft throughout the course of its mission. This type of information is useful to scientists as a complement to the data they are analysing. In addition it is useful during operations of the mission as an easily accessible reference source. The Planck Operational State History (POSH) is such a history which was developed for the Planck mission (Planck Collaboration I (2013)). In this presentation, we outline the motivations for introducing the Operational State History into Planck, we explain its structure and describe possible future applications for space based missions.
