Alejandro Lorca joined Gaia as DPAC software engineer on June 2019 after having offered technical IT support to the Gaia SOC team at ESAC for more than six years. Currently he is involved in the CU8 validation platform, building performant solutions based on technologies such as Jupyter notebooks, virtualization, containers, storage and databases. He is also interested on distributed, scalable and automated techniques which can broaden the accessibility and usability of data-mining and big-data services for the CU8/CU9 units, with special focus on the next Data Releases. Alejandro's background is in particle physics (Ph.D. in 2005) and computing science. He worked as post-doc in Freiburg University and Complutense University of Madrid, and was deeply involved with grid computing in e-Science and High-Performance computing on cluster projects for the MAGIC telescopes and the CTA design.
