Alessandro Spagna is a staff astronomer, working in the astrometric group of the "Osservatorio Astrofisico di Torino". As a member of CU3 he is responsible for the cross-matching algorithms that "count" all the sources observed by Gaia. He also collaborates with CU9 for the validation of the Gaia catalogue. Alessandro got his degree in Physics in 1990 and his PhD in 1995, both at Torino University. He has worked in the final phase of the Hipparcos mission (binary stars) and he was involved, since the beginning, in the project for the construction of the Second Guide Star Catalogue (GSC-II). His scientific interests include stellar statistics and galactic studies, mainly related to the formation and the chemo-dynamical evolution of the Milky Way. [Published: 18/06/2013] |
