Claudio joined Gaia in October 2015, working at the University of Leicester on the modelling of the damage caused by space radiation on the satellite's CCD detectors.
Claudio studied Physics at the Insubria University of Como, in Italy, and in 2003 started working in the USA at Penn State University as a member of the NASA Swift team, a mission dedicated to the study of gamma-ray bursts. He took part in the pre-launch tests and in the satellite scientific and operational activies, in particular of the X-ray telescope (XRT) on board Swift. In 2010 Claudio moved to Leicester in England to work as a calibration scientist for the XRT team, and completed a PhD in Physics on the radiation effects in CCDs.
