European Space Astronomy Centre
Emmanuel Joliet studied Space & Physics Engineering. He graduated at the Université de Liège in 1999 and started his PhD in Astronomy at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. Emmanuel worked at the Instituto Astrofísico de Canarias and obtained his Masters degree in Astronomy in 2002 in Uruguay.
Since then, he has been working in multi-disciplinary international projects for Space and Aeronautical industries in Computer Science, software development, data visualisation, numerical and statistical techniques, and data processing analysis.
Before joining ESA, he worked in Madrid as a Software Engineer in European projects related to aircraft noise measurements and studies, modeling, and simulation of environmental impact noise software and aircraft noise certifications.
In 2006, he joined the Gaia Science Operations Centre team at ESAC in Madrid as System and Software Engineer and has been working in CU1 and CU3, mainly in AGIS and as Work Package leader of the Gaia Parameter DataBase with Uwe Lammers and Jos de Bruijne. He is also a Hierarchical Equal Area isoLatitude Pixelisation (HEALPix) Java committer with William O'Mullane.
More recently, Emmanuel became Cloudera Certified Developer for Apache Hadoop, always related to his constant interest in big-data solutions, visualisation, web development, and mobile applications.
During his spare time and holidays, he enjoys going to the gym, reading about the latest technological gadgets (currently, the RaspberryPi!), going to the movies, and planning for new and exciting traveling destinations.
