Igor Zayer is the ESA Technical Officer leading the development of Gaia's Focal Plane and CCD Technology Demonstrators. Igor obtained his diploma in Physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich and a PhD at ETH's Institute for Astronomy in 1989. He subsequently worked for the Lockheed Martin Space & Astrophysics Laboratory where he had been nominated Instrument Scientist responsible for the end-to-end scientific performance of the Michelson Doppler Imager instrument on the SOHO satellite, while also leading the in-house CCD activities. Igor joined the European Space Agency in 1996. As a physicist in the Photonics Section within the Technical Directorate, he is running numerous technology developments mainly in the area of detectors, lasers and optical processing.
