Juan Gonzalez is working for Gaia CU9 since 2012 as data engineer and database architect for the Gaia Archive at ESAC. Since DR1, he is also the technical contact point for coordinating Gaia activities within the ESAC Science Data Centre. His work is oriented towards maximising Gaia data accessibility to the scientific community.
He obtained his MSc in Telecommunication Engineering in 2008, while completing a traineeship in the ESA Solar System Division. Afterwards he joined the ESA Science Archives Team as Software Engineer, where he has contributed to activities within the IVOA as developer for VOSpec and Euro-VO Registry and other archives such as the Planck Archive or the Planetary Science Archive.
His current research interests include innovative techniques to bring analysis code to scientific archives and enabling the visualisation of scientific data in virtual reality platforms.
In his free time besides spending time with his family he enjoys playing with technology, such as flying model aircrafts, and being in contact with the sea, either above, sailing, or below the surface, scuba diving.
