Mercedes Ramos-Lerate works as a system test engineer for the Gaia Science Operation Center. Part of her responsibilities are to contribute to the main SOC testing campaigns and daily operations.
Mercedes studied Astrophysics at the University of La Laguna. She moved later to UK where she acquired professional experience in space data reduction and processing from the Infrared Space Observatory ISO mission working at Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL). It was at RAL where she started to specialize in the study of high resolution spectroscopy star forming regions, completing her PhD in 2008 by University College London. Mercedes has been also working in private industry as space software engineer until joining the Gaia team in 2009.
