Olivier Marchal joined GEPI (Observatoire de Paris-Meudon) and the Gaia team in June 2012 as a research engineer to work on the development of the spectroscopic data processing in CU6. He is working on several modules of the Extraction and the Single Transit Analysis pipeline and he is also involved as a payload expert in developing tools to control the quality and the consistency of data during the operation rehearsals.
Olivier received a Masters degree in astrophysics in 2003 from the Observatoire de Strasbourg and then a Masters degree in image processing in 2004. After that, he worked in R&D departments for private companies such as Arcelor Mittal and Orange. He also worked as a software engineer for a German software editor and a bank.
In his free time, Olivier likes travelling and discovering new countries. He also plays the guitar and enjoys riding horses in western style. His dream is to own a small ranch and being able to breed horses!
