Oscar Pace was Study Manager of the Gaia mission in ESTEC. Working in the Future Projects office of the ESA Scientific Directorate, Oscar has been Study Manager since the earliest technical studies of Gaia in 1997. Working closely with the Project Scientist, he had responsibility for the technical development contracts with industry, and the overall design and feasibility of the payload and service module, and the mission. The small team working under Oscar during definition study phase (2002-04) developed into the larger Gaia project team once the mission moved into Phase B in 2005.
Oscar's previous projects include AIV Manager on Hipparcos, and Study Manager for Integral, Cobras/Samba (now Planck), Eddington, Solar Orbiter and others.
Oscar retired in 2004.
