Max-Planck-Institut für Astronomie,
Rainer Klement finished his PhD in October 2008 at the Max-Planck-Institut für Astronomie (MPIA), where he was working on stellar phase-space substructure in the Solar neighborhood and the identification of stellar streams in RAVE and SDSS data. Motivated by the promises of the Gaia mission, in particular for Milky Way science, he joined Coryn Bailer-Jones' group at MPIA as a postdoc in November 2008. Rainer is working on the classification of Gaia sources and calibration of the astrophysical parameters.
Rainer's science interests include Milky Way structure and dynamics, exoplanets and brown dwarfs. Besides that he is an active triathlete and mountaineer with a theoretical interest in sports medicine and research.
He left Gaia in December 2010.
