Staffan Söderhjelm has worked for a long time at Lund Observatory, Sweden. He has been involved in space astrometry since around 1980, and he worked extensively on the double-star reductions for Hipparcos. Continuing this interest, he has been working mainly in the Double and Multiple Stars and the Simulations Working Groups for Gaia, investigating the possibilities and problems posed by non-single stars. This is done by building models both of a Galaxy with binaries, and of the observations and reductions proposed for Gaia. Staffan likes to be known as that guy repeating all the time 'most stars are binaries'!
He left Gaia in 2006.
