Thibaut Prod'homme's involvement in Gaia revolves around the CCD radiation damage threat; his main contributions to the Gaia project comprise the elaboration of the most detailed model to date of Charge Transfer Inefficiency in CCDs and the comprehensive re-assessment of the astrometric performance of Gaia taking into account radiation damage. As part of his PhD research he also developed the CEMGA java package that enables the simulation of the operation of a CCD including radiation damage effects and other aspects.
Thibaut started his PhD at the Leiden Observatory (The Netherlands) in 2007 under the supervision of Dr. Anthony Brown and within the EU Marie Curie research training network ELSA (European Leadership in Space Astrometry). Before that, he graduated from the National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA) as an engineer in Solid State Physics with a speciality in Materials and Nanotechnologies and from the Rennes 1 University (France) as a Master in Physics. During his studies, he took part in several research projects such as the elaboration of novel satellite simulation tools at EADS Astrium Toulouse (France), the development of a new ion beam analysis method for a nuclear microprobe at the CEA Saclay (French atomic agency), and the study of radiation hard material in view of the nuclear fusion reactor ITER project at the Cluj-Napoca Technical University (Romania).
Apart from space related sciences and cutting-edge technology, Thibaut's interests lie in Cinema, Photography and Performing Arts. In particular he recently organized the 3rd Edition of the Leiden Short Film Experience and he is the photographer of many dance events.
