PV 2026 - Ensuring Long-Term Preservation and Adding Value to Scientific and Technical Data
The PV Conference welcomes you to its 11th edition, to be held 23 - 26 June 2026 at the ESA’s European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) in Villanueva de la Canada, Madrid (Spain). PV2026 will continue to address prospects in the domains of data preservation, stewardship and value-adding to scientific data and research related information.
Data continues to be produced with exponential growth in a wide range of areas: space, ground-based, simulations, models, et cetera. Data management systems need to comply with the FAIR principles to ensure Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, and Reuse of digital assets. The advent of AI and ML, and the development of science data platforms also bring new challenges to Data producers and Data providers to serve their users and scientists worldwide, either through powerful and intuitive graphical user interfaces or through fast and secure machine interfaces.
PV2026 purpose is to bring together the community to present and discuss the experiences, feedback and prospects for efficient scientific and technical data management systems along the following themes.
This year's conference topics include, but are not limited to:
- Ensuring long-term preservation of data, metadata, software, workflows, models and knowledge (the "P" in PV).
- Technology for preservation: cost effective, environmental-friendly, cloud, security and digital protection.
- Adding value to data and facilitation of data use and re-use (the "V" in PV).
- Increasing data usage through community standards and formats, data interoperability, multi-mission tools and science platforms.
- Impact of AI and ML on data preservation and adding value to data.
- Governance, funding and policy for long term preservation.
- Scientific productivity and other metrics to measure data archives usage and usefulness.
