General description

Science Goal:

 This is a measurement of oscillations known to be present above sunspots (e.g., Fludra 1999, 2001). The goal is to detect them in different SPICE lines and characterise their properties.    

Target: sunspot

Default SOOP duration: minimum 8 hours

Pointing requirements: point the SPICE slit 10 arcsec (TBC) to the right-hand-side of the selected Sunspot, and leave the slit there while the sun rotates. The whole sunspot should pass across the slit. The context raster before and after the time series should be pointed to the same location as the sit&stare slit. NO spacecraft tracking.

The sunspot should ideally be large and within +- 30 degrees from disk centre.  Smaller sunspots acceptable too.

- 6 hours of FSI174 at 10min cadence

- 6 hours of FSI304 at 60min cadence

Standard observing programme of the day is usually OK.

An ideal scenario would be:

HiRes & Full Disk

PHI_HRT_NOM_0: HRT nominal mode at 1 minute cadence for 1 hour (same time interval as EUI HRI).

Full disk at 30 min cadence for rest of the time.

  • Preferred Sun-Earth line to allow SDO and other near-Earth observatories to participate.  However, Solar Orbiter stand-alone observations are also useful and possible any time.
