Space Science Workshops

The Space Science Workshop, SSW, series offers a yearly opportunity for the ESA Space Science Faculty to gather together in a single location for a few days to discuss their research. The internal workshop mixes presentations, posters and discussion to develop and enhance collaboration between members based at ESTEC, ESAC and STScI.

The main purpose of this workshop is to present and discuss the space science research of scientists in SCI. It is an opportunity to "stretch" our abilities by engaging with topics which we do not normally follow. It allows us to broaden our skill set and foster inter-site, as well as inter-project, cooperation in research activities. ​​​​​​

The latest edition, SSW-18, occured in February 2026 in La Granja near Madrid, Spain.

Historically, the series was also known as the Inter-Departmental Science Workshop (IDSW), SRE Science Workshop or SCI Science Workshop (both conventiently SSW).
