Hera Community Workshop

Workshop Overview

The Hera workshop is open to all parties involved in the Hera mission and to the whole small body community. The progress and future plans of the scientific and operational preparation of the Hera mission, organized in 5 working groups, will be discussed. The meeting will be 3 full days.

The meeting is being postponed. A new date will be announced once the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic has improved.

A session with a status update on the mission will be given by videoconference on November 10. Agenda and connection information is provided in the menu on the left-hand side.

Hera is ESA’s contribution to the Asteroid Impact Deflection Assessment (AIDA) international cooperation, targeting the deflection demonstration of a hazardous near-Earth asteroid. Hera will also be the first in-depth investigation of a binary asteroid and will perform  relevant measurements for the preparation of asteroid resources utilisation. Hera will rendezvous with the binary near-Earth asteroid (65803) Didymos in early 2027, four years after the impact of NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) spacecraft.

Hera was formally approved at ESA's Ministerial Conference in November 2019.

Participants who already registered for the meeting will be reimbursed. Registration will reopen once a new meeting date has been fixed.
