PDS4 PSA Training Workshop

Room D1/D2
ESA/ESAC Madrid, Spain
21-22 November 2016

Introduction

The NASA PDS4 planetary data standard is currently gaining wide adoption in the community and the first ESA mission to use this standard, ExoMars 2016, was launched in March this year. A new Planetary Science Archive (PSA) has been developed at ESAC to house both PDS3 and PDS4 data. This is also built with the aim of significantly improving the user experience and is already populated with PDS3 data from ongoing and previous missions plus ongoing population of raw PDS4 products produced by the ExoMars 2016 SOC.

The ExoMars 2016 mission is in a phase where the instrument teams are desiging and producing their data pipelines and teams involved with future ESA missions are also desigining their data products, therefore this workshop will aid data developers familiarise themselves with PDS4 and its implementation in the PSA.

Aims of the Workshop

The Workshop is primarily intended to aid data producers design and produce PDS4 products for operational and for future ESA missions. The current ESA missions using this standard are ExoMars 2016, BepiColombo, ExoMars RSP and JUICE.

The workshop will introduce the new PSA, demonstrating its new feaures and also the PSA data model. It will also introduce PDS and will cover the PDS4 standard in detail.

The PDS4 standard covers a wide range of attributes and classes but for ESA missions it has been desirable to extend this standard by introducing customised PSA level schema. The workshop will cover the PSA classes and attributes giving details on why these were introduced. Guidance will given to data providers on producing mission and instrument level schema.

Although this worksop is primariliy aimed at data providers, parts of the workshop will also be of benefit to future PDS4 data users.

Pre-Requisites

No previous experience of working with PDS4 is required but for maximum benefit participants may consider reading the PDS4 Concepts Document before attending the workshop.

Fee

No fee will be charged for this workshop.
