YSWG activities during the SWT at ESA/ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands

On October 14–18, 2019, the Science Working Team (SWT) of BepiColombo gathered for the 19th time. One year after the launch of BepiColombo, a special History session was planned, and the celebration of the 1st anniversary of BepiColombo in space took place in the restaurant of the ESA Scientific and Technical Center (ESTEC) in the Netherlands.

The Young Scientist Working group hold its now traditional session on Monday morning, including the traditional paper reviews and some scientific presentations. Go Murakami announced that the number of YSWG members is always increasing, now reaching 92 participants! Daniel Heyner announced that the MPO-MAG instrument team will fund the 1st year of Mendeley tool within our working group. A review of the YSWG meeting at Coimbra was presented by Joana Oliveira.

The first results of the SHOTS project, a sub-working group of the YSWG, was presented by Léa Griton and Sae Aizawa at the Hermean Environment Working Group.

The part of the Young Scientists among BepiColombo's Science Team was highlighted and debated during the History panel, on Wednesday afternoon: the "older" scientists acknowledged they could contribute to promote the YSWG by helping the members to apply for fundings, for example on the European level (ERC starting grants program).

Key moments from this SWT#19 were the social event (including a harp quintet concert, and a jazz session at Escape), the History session and the collective singing of the BepiColombo song, joint session with the Solar Orbiter SWT members, and of course the celebration of the successful launch campaign and outreach activities (including a presentation of the Bep'it program)!
