Vacancy Notice: SOST Developer

The newly formed Survey Operations Support Team (SOST) of the Euclid Consortium is responsible for updating the Euclid reference survey during operations, defining the sequences of pointings that the telescope will actually observe. The team has a strong interface with ESA/SOC.

We are looking for a software developer to join the SOST team.

The position is funded by the Portuguese Space Agency and is initially for 1 year, with funding secured for an additional 2 years. Possible extension up to the end of the mission is subject to continued funding. The appointment is with the University of Lisbon, however remote work is possible in case moving to Lisbon is not convenient.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the maintenance and further development of ECTile, the Euclid survey software.

ECTile has a complex architecture with several modules and includes algorithms for tessellation of the sphere, computation of the Euclid tiles, generation of sky patches, construction of optimized point-to-point routes in the sphere, among others. ECTile uses quaternions algebra to define pointings in the sky and spacecraft rotations. It is written in C and has a total of 70K Lines of Code.

Candidates must have a bachelor degree or higher (a PhD is not mandatory), preferably in software engineering, computer science or related areas. Long term experience in development of geometrical algorithms, familiarity with quaternion algebra and proficiency in C programming language are preferential requirements.
