About the INTEGRAL Science Operations Centre (ISOC)

 

The INTEGRAL Science Operations Centre (ISOC) was responsible for the definition of scientific operations including the instrument configuration for each observation, the mission planning and implementation of the observing programme.

In summary, the ISOC:

  • prepared AO's for observations, received proposals and assessed their technical feasibility and made these assessments available to the Time Allocation Committee,
  • was responsible for the mission planning (scheduling) and implementation of the observing programme,
  • was responsible for the definition of scientific operations including the instrument configuration for each observation,
  • decided on the generation of an alert for Targets of Opportunity in order to change/interrupt the observing programme (responsibility of Project Scientist).

As part of the Legacy Phase preparations during the post-operations Phase, ISOC supported

During all phases of operations, ISOC supported the INTEGRAL user community through outreach activities and the Helpdesk (shared with ISDC).

ISOC is located at the European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC), situated at Villafranca del Castillo near Madrid (Spain).
