Proposal evaluation

Between mid-July and end August 2022 the turnaround time for the assessment of proposals submitted to the Discretionary Programme may be up to three weeks. This should be taken into account when planning proposal submisison and observing timelines.

latest date for cheops observations in the nominal mission

Prospective observers should note that the final observations in the nominal mission of CHEOPS will be executed in the month of September 2023. Proposals for observations that take place up to and including 24 September 2023 will be considered.

Reserved TARGETS

The Reserved Target List is not complete and will remain so until end May 2022, when the annoucnement of successful AO-3 proposals will be made. People considering submitting proposals for discretionary time on the timescale of now until the end of May 2022 should contact the CHEOPS Project scientist to check whether their potential target has already been included in an AO-3 proposal.

Proposals led by PhD students and early career researchers

The requirements on the single target to have either (a) been discovered or (b) declared to be of high scientific interest since the close of the previous call (ie. AO-2, 1 December 2020) is waived for proposals led by PhD students (as part of their PhD work) and/or early career researchers (defined as those within 2 years of the award of their PhD). A statement/demonstration of the statius of the proposal PI must be provided in the technical justification in such cases.

change to eligibility criteria for targets included in proposals submitted to the discretionary Programme

The requirements on the single target that may be included in proposals submitted to the Discretionary Programme are in the process of being updated and are noted below in bold.

  • the target must have been either (a) discovered, or (b) declared to be of high scientific interest since the close of the previous call (now AO-2, 1 December 2020)
  • the target/event must be observable by the date foreseen for the end of AO cycle 3 (March 25 2023) , and must not be on the CHEOPS Reserverd Target List

These new dates supercede those given in the Policies and Procedures document (i1.0) for the Programme, which dates back to July 2020.
