Anticipated timeline for next XMM-Newton Announcement of Opportunity: AO-23

The planned key milestones for the Twenty-third XMM-Newton "Announcement of Opportunity" have been established. Within this AO-23 a new call to submit proposals for observations to be performed with the XMM-Newton observatory will be issued.

To be prepared for this, please find below the anticipated timeline:

Announcement of Opportunity 17 August 2023
Due date for Proposals 6 October 2023 (12:00 UT)
Final OTAC approved programme mid December 2023

For approved proposals only:

Start of Phase II proposal submission 9 January 2024
Closure of Phase II proposal submission 2 February 2024
Start of observations May 2024

The official "Announcement of Opportunity" will be made public in the XMM-Newton News and on the XMM-Newton Science Operations Centre Home Page.

Let us know about XMM-Newton related Ph.D. and prizes for XMM-Newton results

As already announced in previous issues of this Newsletter, the XMM-Newton team is collecting information about the completion of doctorates and Ph.D. theses based on (or making use of) XMM-Newton observations.

We would appreciate if you - being a candidate or a supervisor of a doctorate - could let us know details through the page

http://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/xmm-newton/phd-theses

Also, we would be grateful if you could inform us (via a message to XMM-Newton HelpDesk, with subject "Ph.D. thesis work") in case you are aware of theses from, or supervised by, colleagues that make use of XMM-Newton data but are not yet included in the above list.

In addition, the XMM-Newton SOC is compiling a list of prizes won based on XMM-Newton results, see

http://www.cosmos.esa.int/web/xmm-newton/prizes

Information about such prizes can be sent via e-mail to the HelpDesk indicating the name of the winner, year, prize name and granting institution.

Yours sincerely,

XMM-Newton SOC
