Proceedings from the Hipparcos Venice '97 symposium

Presenting the Hipparcos and Tycho Catalogues
and
first astrophysical results of the Hipparcos astrometry mission

The Hipparcos Venice '97 Symposium was held in May (13-16) 1997. The symposium had three main aims: to present the Hipparcos and Tycho Catalogues to the scientific community; to present the first astrophysical results from the Hipparcos mission and to reflect on possibilities offered by astrometry from space in the future.

The symposium was organised into twelve sessions covering:
Session 1: Description of the Hipparcos and Tycho Catalogues
Session 2: Astrometric Results
Session 3-4: Stellar Physics
Session 5-6: Galactic Physics
Session 7: Cosmic Distance and Age Scale
Session 8-10: Selected Highlights
Session 11: Prospects of Microarcsec Astrometry: the Science
Session 12: Prospects of Microarcsec Astrometry: the Projects

The proceedings are reproduced here in pdf format.
