Main Research Fields

I am the Project Scientist for the Solar Orbiter mission, a joint ESA-NASA space mission to study the Sun up close. Solar Orbiter provides close-up and soon also high-latitude observations of the Sun to study how the Sun creates and controls the Heliosphere, the huge plasma bubble in space that surrounds our solar system. I also act as the Project Scientist for The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO).

In addition, I have a strong interest in high-performance scientific data visualization. In particular, I am coordinating the development of the open-source  JHelioviewer software and am the ESA Project Lead of the ESA/NASA Helioviewer Project.
